IMG_6007 - The next several views are from Fort St John, which guarded the eastern, old harbour Gradska luka.

IMG_6008 - Before this Kaše breakwater was built in 15th century, a chain protected the harbour from enemy vessels at night.

IMG_6009 - This area near the mainland is the more touristic, and less residential, part of the old town, with cafes and shops.

IMG_6011 - In the middle, just beyond the boats, is a bridge which leads to the Ploče Gate, the eastern entrance to the city.

IMG_6013 - From the gate the main street, (Stradun, or Placa) runs straight through the city to the Pile Gate in the west.

IMG_6021 - The region of Ploče behind the harbour, outside the walls, is famous for its steep, sometimes stepped, streets.
